A Splendid Little War?

President Bush will give his "State of the Union" address on Tuesday, and the coverage -- pro and con -- will undoubtedly alight on a few pre-approved talking points.

We'd like our Poor Readers to consider something else while listening -- assuming they have the stomach to, which we don't:

The invasion of Iraq began on March 20, 2003. Below is a comparison of the stock prices of some top U.S. defense contractors for January, 2003 and January, 2007.In other words, a $250,000 investment in Halliburton in January, 2003 would be worth $801,582 today.

Bear this in mind as you listen to Mr. Bush promote his "New Way Forward" in Iraq.

Comments:
I'd like to see a comparison of the net worth of Dick Cheney between January of '03 and now.

Lying profiteer? Perish the thought.

Or Donald Rumsfeld, who was supposedly worth at least $250 million (via the "defense industry") back in 2003. Who knows what he's worth now.

Not to mention the gaggle of top military brass who nodded in vigorous support of a war they now solemnly oppose.

Was it just me, or did anyone else hear him actually pronounce NUCLEAR. I freaked and left the room. The wife told me he went back to NUKULAR later. The speach didn't last long after that on our TV - we watched Catch22.
