The
"Why Bullshit Our Fans? We're In It For The Money" Pooka Stew Reunion
Tour!
By Greg Rolnick
EXCERPTS
FROM OUR EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH POOKA STEW:
Greg
Rolnick: What possesssed you guys to want to play together again?
Michael Barry (vocals/guitar): Now that Derek is out of the picture,
we can rock out like we always should have.
Billy Hansen (bass/vocals): I think what he means is, that without
Derek on stage, we won't have to worry about as much beer flying all
over the instruments and causing those bum notes. I mean, my fingers
used to slide all over the fret board when the Budweiser started spraying
about.
MB: No. I mean we can rock out. Derek was always a distraction. Banishing
him to Colorado was the best executive decision I ever made.
BH: (nervous laughter) He's kidding, of course.
MB: Right.
GR: Chris Glynn, you've been quiet about the upcoming show/tour. Any
thoughts?
Chris Glynn (drums): I'm in it for the money. And some beer. Money
and beer, really. The rest is just details.
GR: I see...what about the rumours that a new Pooka Stew album is
around the corner if the tour is a success?
MB: Well, we have some recordings that were done before Pooka's demise,
and I have been in the studio since laying down some different tracks,
so it's possible that I may release something soon.
BH: We. We may release something, right?
MB: Did you sign that release form about the royalties?
BH: Yes.
MB: (To Chris) Did you?
CG: I think so. I was kinda buzzed.
MB: Yes, "we" may release something.
GR: I'm sensing some band tension. Any comments on how this may affect
the show/tour?
BH: I think we're just rusty at the interview process. On stage it's
like old times, when we were firing on all cylinders. I mean, I think
back on some of those classic gigs...
MB: Like the Vassar College gig back in '95...
BH: ...yeah, like that one. And I see that same passion today. And
crowd response too. The crowds at those shows were really...
CG: ...underwhelming.
BH: ...quiet.
GR: Any comments on the current state of the Boston music scene?
CG: Not sure. I haven't been out in a while, bands get in the way
of my drinking. Are the Cliffs still playing?
BH: I miss all of the great rockabilly bands. This whole new swing
thing just pales in comparison to bands like The Grandsons of the
Pioneers...
MB: It's a sorry state of affairs. I think that's what made us decide
to come back. To show people how a band is supposed to play.
GR: And to make some cash?
MB/BH: Yes.
CG: And get some free beer. Don't forget the beer.
